Formats, limits and what is preserved

Images keep their browser-displayed dimensions and transparency. Up to 24 megapixels and 16,384 pixels per side; PNG results are limited to 256 MB in total. Images are processed one at a time. Output is an 8-bit sRGB still PNG. Original metadata, HDR and wide-gamut color profiles are not copied. Animated AVIF files are not supported. AVIF profile and orientation support vary by browser; check the preview.

Convert AVIF to PNG without uploading your images

An image saved from the web ends in .avif, but your document, presentation or design app asks for PNG. Choose the saved file here to create a real PNG on your device. This free online converter needs no account and adds no watermark.

How to convert an AVIF file to PNG

  1. Choose files or drop your .avif images into the converter. You can select several files at once.
  2. Wait for each image to show Ready to download. Check its preview, dimensions and PNG file size.
  3. Choose Download PNG for one image, or Download all PNGs (ZIP) for the ready images in your batch. Extract the ZIP to use the PNG files.

Convert multiple AVIF images to PNG

Select a batch of AVIF files and download each PNG separately, or get the ready images together in a ZIP. Each file has its own preview, dimensions and status. Add more files, stop unfinished conversions or remove an image you no longer need. A damaged or unsupported file does not prevent the others from converting. Duplicate filenames receive unique names in the ZIP.

Keep transparent backgrounds

AVIF and PNG both support transparency. When your browser decodes the AVIF transparency, those areas stay transparent in the PNG, including partially transparent edges. The checkerboard behind the preview is a viewing aid; it is not added to the image. An existing opaque background stays opaque.

What changes when AVIF becomes PNG?

The converter saves your browser’s decoded image as an 8-bit sRGB PNG at its displayed pixel dimensions. It does not resize, sharpen or recover detail already lost to AVIF compression. PNG files can be much larger, especially for photographs. AVIF can carry HDR, wide-gamut color and higher bit depths that this output does not preserve. Keep your original for archival or color-critical work.

Convert AVIF on Windows, Mac, iPhone or Android

Use an up-to-date Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Edge browser that can open your AVIF file. On a computer, drag images from a folder or use Choose files. On a phone or tablet, Choose files opens the system file picker. Downloads are usually available through Files or Downloads. Keep the tab open until the download starts. Browser and AVIF profile support can vary; an unsupported file shows an error beside its name.

Save AVIF as an actual PNG file

Download the AVIF to your device first, then choose it here. Renaming .avif to .png changes only the filename; it does not make the image compatible with apps that need PNG. This converter creates PNG image data as well as a .png filename. It does not fetch remote image URLs.

Your files stay on your device

Conversion and ZIP creation run in your browser. Image bytes, filenames, thumbnails and sizes are not sent to our servers or analytics, and files are not saved to browser storage. Clear all or close the tab to discard the working batch. The page uses website analytics, but your images and file details are hidden from session recordings.

AVIF to PNG questions

Is this AVIF to PNG converter free?

Yes. Convert and download without paying, creating an account or adding a watermark. The file, batch and dimension limits keep browser memory use bounded.

Can I convert AVIF to PNG in bulk?

Yes. Choose up to 100 files, within 50 MB per file and 200 MB per batch. Download individual PNGs or a ZIP of the ready results. Extract the ZIP to use the images.

Does AVIF to PNG keep transparency?

Transparency decoded by your browser is kept in the PNG. The tool does not add a white background or remove an opaque background from a photograph.

Can I convert an animated AVIF?

No. This converter accepts still AVIF images. Animated AVIF files and image sequences show an unsupported-animation message before decoding. Use a frame-extraction tool if you need individual frames, and keep the original if you need the animation.

Why is the PNG larger than the AVIF?

AVIF can store photographs much more compactly than PNG. Converting helps with apps that require PNG; it is not a way to compress your AVIF. The download size is shown before you save the result.

Can I just change .avif to .png?

No. A new extension does not change the encoded image. Converting creates real PNG data that a PNG-compatible app can open.

Are HDR, color profiles and metadata preserved?

No. The PNG uses the browser-rendered 8-bit sRGB image. HDR, higher bit depths, original color profiles, camera metadata and resolution tags are not copied. Browser decoding can change color values; keep your source AVIF when those details matter.

Why will my AVIF not convert?

Check the message beside the file. It may be damaged, animated, over a size or dimension limit, or use an AVIF profile that your browser cannot decode. Try an up-to-date browser or a smaller still image. Ready results remain available even when another file fails.

Can I convert other image formats to PNG?

Yes. This page also accepts WebP, PNG, JPG and GIF files. Animated WebP and GIF become the first still frame; animated PNG uses its default still image or first frame. SVG, HEIC and PDF are not supported. This page exports PNG only.
