Convert Markdown to PDF Online

This free Markdown to PDF converter turns any Markdown or .md file into a clean, print-ready PDF in your browser. Paste your text or open a README, notes, a report or documentation, check the page preview and save it as a PDF in one click. Headings, lists, tables, task lists, block quotes, links, images, syntax-highlighted code, math formulas and Mermaid diagrams are typeset with real book fonts on paper. Whether you search for "md to pdf", ".md to pdf" or "convert markdown to pdf", this is the same job: a Markdown file in, a finished PDF out. Nothing is uploaded, there is no sign-up and no watermark.

How to Convert an MD File to PDF

Choose Open file and pick a .md or .markdown file, drag it onto the page, or paste Markdown into the editor. Pick A4 or Letter paper and narrow, normal or wide margins; the preview shows the page at that size. Then select Save as PDF. Your browser’s print dialog opens: choose “Save as PDF” as the destination and save the file. That is all it takes to export, print or download Markdown as a PDF, on Windows, macOS, Linux or a Chromebook. On a phone, switch between the Markdown and Preview tabs.

What Ends Up in the PDF

Everything GitHub renders, plus what a printed document needs:

Clean, Print-Ready PDFs

The PDF contains real, selectable text and working links, so it stays sharp at any zoom and can be searched. Text is set in Source Serif, headings in Source Sans and code in Source Code Pro, so the same document looks the same on every computer. Long code lines wrap instead of being cut off, a table or formula too wide for the page is scaled down on its own instead of shrinking the whole document, table headers repeat on each page, and headings stay with the text that follows them. Code backgrounds, table stripes and callouts print in color. In Chrome and Edge the PDF has no browser header or footer and can carry page numbers; in Firefox, turn off “Headers and footers” in the print dialog.

Math, Diagrams and Other Extensions

Beyond GitHub Flavored Markdown (tables, task lists, strikethrough, footnotes, autolinks), the converter typesets LaTeX math written as $…$, $$…$$ or a math code block, and draws mermaid code blocks as flowcharts, sequence, class, state, entity-relationship, Gantt, pie, Git, mindmap and timeline diagrams. It also understands YAML front matter, GitHub alerts, Docusaurus and MkDocs admonitions, ==highlighted== text, emoji shortcodes, a [TOC] table of contents, embedded HTML such as <details> and <kbd>, and images from the web or embedded as data URLs.

Paper Size, Margins, Page Numbers and Page Breaks

Choose A4 (210 × 297 mm) or US Letter (8.5 × 11 in); the converter starts with the usual size for your region and remembers your choice. Margins can be narrow (0.5 in), normal (0.75 in) or wide (1 in). In Chrome and Edge, Page numbers adds “1 / 12” style numbering at the foot of every page. To start a new page at a specific point, put <div style="page-break-after: always"></div> on its own line in your Markdown; \newpage, \pagebreak and <!-- pagebreak --> work too, so files written for Pandoc or other converters break in the same places.

README, Docs and Notes: Convert GitHub Markdown to PDF

A README.md from GitHub or GitLab prints the way it looks online: badges, task lists, collapsible sections (expanded on paper), alerts and tables included, so you can hand a project’s documentation to someone as a single PDF. Notes exported from Obsidian, Notion, Joplin, Typora or Bear, meeting notes, changelogs, assignments and reports written in Markdown all convert the same way, including images they embed. For a documentation set, paste the files one after another with a page break between them.

No Pandoc, Python or VS Code Extension Needed

Pandoc with a LaTeX install, a Python library or a VS Code “Markdown PDF” extension all work, but they need setup, and the VS Code and CLI routes are hard on a locked-down laptop or a Chromebook. This converter runs in the browser you already have, on any operating system, with nothing to install and no account. The result is a real PDF made by your browser’s own print engine, the same engine that renders the page, so what you see in the preview is what you get.

Private Markdown to PDF Conversion

Many online Markdown to PDF converters upload your file to a server to create the PDF, and some add a watermark unless you pay. This one does neither. Your Markdown is rendered and saved as a PDF on your own device. It is never sent to a server, saved or shared, and the preview runs in a sandbox with scripts disabled. Images and links in your Markdown still load from their own sources.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert a Markdown file to PDF?

Open your .md file, drag it onto the page or paste the Markdown. Choose the paper size and margins, select Save as PDF, and pick “Save as PDF” in the print dialog. It works in any modern desktop browser.

How do I turn a .md file into a PDF on Windows, Mac or Linux?

The same way on every system: open this page in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari, open the .md file and save it as a PDF. There is nothing to install, so it also works on a Chromebook or a managed work laptop.

Is it free, and does it add a watermark?

It is completely free, with no sign-up and no watermark. The PDF contains only your document.

Is my Markdown uploaded?

No. The conversion happens entirely in your browser. Your Markdown is never uploaded, saved or shared, and there is no account.

Does it support Mermaid diagrams and LaTeX math?

Yes. Fenced mermaid blocks are drawn as diagrams and $…$, $$…$$ or math blocks are typeset with KaTeX, all inside the PDF. A diagram or formula wider than the page is scaled to fit.

Can I convert a GitHub README to PDF?

Yes. Open or paste the README.md and it prints with its badges, tables, task lists and alerts as GitHub shows them, expanded sections and all.

How do I add page breaks and page numbers?

Put <div style="page-break-after: always"></div> (or \newpage) on its own line where a new page should start. Tick Page numbers above the preview to number every page; in Chrome and Edge this adds no other header or footer.

Why does a print dialog open?

Your browser’s built-in Save as PDF creates a sharp PDF with selectable text and working links, without uploading anything. Choose “Save as PDF” as the destination in the dialog, then save the file.
